You're right, Marshal...it is a bit complicated. It forces me to be a bit introspective and philosophical and ask myself, "Self, why are you doing this, anyway? To have an adventure? To see the country? To try to break records? To race other riders? To spend time alone and away from the din of daily life?"
If I had answers to some of that question, I think the decision would be far easier to make!
I might not be too bright, but it'll be hard to not go up and over the top. If for no other reason than to say that it was there and, like many other things in life, it didn't deter me from what has to be done.
Although that tune could change when we're all in Banff. Heh.
The number of passes that are still substantially snowbound along the GDMBR between Banff and central MT is going to put a serious damper on my prospective TD experience. I think my mind is made up - this time around, I'm going to start in the realm of Bufo alvarius.
Well let's just blatantly state the obvious here Kurt. Among the field you are *at least* as well prepared as any to crush this thing - to set a record. If you start on the traditional start date that is likely out of the question.
Do you really need to slog your way over snowy passes, through snowy meadows just to be with a group?
Like it or not, your potential defines you. Postpone.

If it was me it would be option 2 with no 2nd thoughts
But I suspect it’s not so simple for you. With this yrs field and your ranking with in said field—well not so simple

Sonoran Desert Toad
Yeah, watch out for those fat little guys after a good rain down there. They're everywhere and croaking up a racket!
I'm assuming this means you're starting south.
I think that's wise. Pedaling in the sun is far more fun than pushing through snow.
If I misread, and I don't feel like looking up bufo alvarius so I'm not sure what that means, then enjoy the snow. :)
Hot tub in Banff + cold beers = goodness.
Hmm. I retract my decision. I remain undecided of the best plan of attack for this year. The amount of snow in some of these ranges is staggering.
